Been sooo busy

Posted by: kyriemist on: February 25, 2009

So I’ve been really busy trying to keep up with everything lately and since I got a new computer which didn’t have a photo editing program I let the blogging slide a bit. Now I have currently finished 2 pairs of socks and 3 Murlocs. I have one more to go before I am done and then I will be done with Murlocs for some time I think.

The lost boys are doing well. Alex has managed to get a score of 98 for the Gate program. Which he was very excited about until he realized that meant more classes and homework. *insert evil laughter here*

The lost boys are still filling in the very large and deep grave they dug to china three weeks ago. Currently they almost have some of their toys back, and have been allowed to do more then just stare at a wall for the last week. Which has been nice for everyone. We are hoping they can go a whole week without trying to open the grave back up. Our fingers are crossed and I think since the microwave has given up the ghost and the clock no longer changes minutes that they have fully decided that watching the clock is not as fun as it used to be. I could be wrong about that…lets hope not.

I have been editing the Strangers RPG game, while will be released June 1st and am very very excited about that. As well I am planning on attending Gen Con in Aug to watch the game be debuted.

Oh I got my Kindle today and I absolutely LOVE it. I love it more then…hmm well less then Craig and more then WoW…I think. Yeah yeah I’m almost sure that’s the right amount. I need to knit it a case so that it doesn’t get scratched up.

Okay that’s all I’ve got for now I still haven’t quiet learned my new photo editing software and I really don’t have the patience for it tonight. So here is the post with out pictures. :)

Are we going IN?!?

Posted by: kyriemist on: February 4, 2009

So yesterday E and I went to J’s house in Pahrump,  to watch the second season of Carnivale which if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend. The plot is enthrallingly engaging even if the pace is a bit slow and drawn out.  Some of you should know where this is going already.

We spent 4 hours watching Carnivale and knitting on the new sock pattern I have been designing I have not decided how I am going to do the cuff just yet.  Here is a taste of the Fleckless Sock.

footdone

Oh yeah I also made a weighted sock bag last night because I didn’t want to wait for the ones on line to ship. It turned out pretty awesome for the prototype. I will be giving it to Kayden and changing a few things on the next one I make.

flecklesspiratebag

J asked if we would like to take a tour of Pahrump.  Which is by the way ia way smaller then Laurel and has no side walks….at all except down town and only a block or so long.

Anyway on the way in to J’s house I saw a yarn shop *insert angelic singing here* so I was very excited to go check it out. We arrived at 3:55 and the shop closed at 4pm. The shop is basicly two trailer houses placed side by side. One side has fabric and notions along with a room for classes and then other side has the yarn….*sigh* unfortunately they only carried one brand of yarn…Red Heart. For those of you who don’t know Red Heart is seriously the crappiest of all crappy acrylic yarn.

However it was five minutes to close, and was very obvious that this shop needed all the economic stimulation it could get. So I bought some crappy Red Heart yarn…

Crappy Red Heart Yarn

Crappy Red Heart Yarn

I am hoping that it will make a cute baby hoodie like the last yarn I bought to help a local shop out.  Some how I don’t think it will stripe like the last one did.

almostdone

After the yarn shop J asked if we would like to drive by the local brothals. I’ll admit I was curious while E was…less then curious but at least willing to let us drive by them. So we wandered on down to whatever street the Chicken House and Sheri’s Ranch are on.  Both of these brothals are at the edge of town and the end of the street. I mean that litterally right after Sheri’s parking lot it dead ends and it’s just desert.

So J pulled into the parking lot and E begins to tense up. The outside of the place looks like…any other large strip mall which has art work by Olivia plaster all over the outside of the building.

J slips into a parking space and shuts off the engine and E stiffens up and turns toward me with absolute panic in her face.  Though you can tell she trying really really hard to not show it.  J hops out and seeing the panic on E’s face I can’t help but pop my door open just to watch her eyes light up with panic.  I may have an evil streak…just a small one…really. I swear it’s small.

Anyway she said…”Are we going…In?” and I say “Why not.” I’m slightly curious about the inside.  J is all bubbly in that innocent way of hers and says, “They give free tours.”

At this point I’m trying really really hard not to laugh at E because she’s is screaming in her head now and smiling bravely at us.  J pulls open the door to the bar and the light streams into the darkened interior.

The whole place seems to inhale and then hold their breath as we walk in. There are four Johnnies sitting around the bar getting chatted up by women of various ages in thongs and bras.  The three at the end of the bar were probably in their late forties. The men are immediately uncomfortable, and yet somewhat specluative at the same time.

The bar manager comes over to find out why we are there and why we felt the need to make her customers uncomfortable. J explains that we are from out of town and want to take the tour. We order a drink…because lets be honest if you go to a whore house you better at least have a drink.

One of the girls comes out to give us a tour. E is gulping her drink and trying not to ask any inappropriate questions even though she has a ton of them. She’s pretty sure the tour guide would not have appreciated them.  I think my favorite question was…”you really have sex with people…really?”  She show us to the rooms you can party in which I have to say was very interesting.

They had the expesive dinner room where you pay for a steak and lobster dinner and the desert is a blow job with a Creme De Menthe shot before hand that adds to the whole desert experience.  I’m pretty sure the girl gets the shot. She said it adds a hot and cooling sensation. I’m now taking notes.

They have two Jacuzzi rooms which have different decore another room which has bubbles falling from the ceiling over the top of the bubble bath tub that is set up on a pedastal.  The whole time the girl is taking us around E is chugging her drink and  trying not to appear uncomfortable…and failing misebly.

Then they had the S&M room which is equiped with a stage and stripper pole. A large leather covered thorne with chains and cuffs attached to it. A St. Andrews cross and a leather covered sawhorse.  Along with various whips hanging on the wall.

We were told that if you wanted to rent out this room it was $500 an hour plus the two girls that were mandatory and it was required that each girl was tipped for every lap dance they performed.

At this point the tour was over and we went back to the bar dropped off our empty drinks and left. E began to breathe again and J & I teased her about the whole thing. There really is nothing better then tormenting your friends.

We’ve been telling E for a bit that we are taking her to the strip club where they have boy strippers  for her birthday.  I think after that we’ll have to take her to the Stripper 101 class. *smirks* I can’t wait to see her face.

US Democracy Server: Patch Day

Version 44.0

President

* Leadership: Will now scale properly to national crises. Intelligence
  was not being properly applied.
* A bug has been fixed that allowed the President to ignore the effects
of debuffs applied by the Legislative classes.
* Drain Treasury: There appears to be a bug that allowed loot to be
transferred from the treasury to anyone on the President’s friends
list,or in the President’s party. We are investigating.
* Messages to and from the President will now be correctly saved to
  the chat log.
* Messages originating from the President were being misclassified as
  originating from The American People.
* A rendering error that frequently caused the President to appear
wrapped in the American Flag texture has been addressed.

Vice President

* The Vice President has been correctly reclassified as a pet.
* No longer immune to damage from the Legislative and Judicial classes.
* The Vice President will no longer aggro on friendly targets. This bug
was identified with Ranged Attacks and the Head Shot ability.
* Reveal Identity: this debuff will no longer be able to target Covert
  Operatives.
* Messages to and from the Vice President will now be correctly saved
  to the chat log.
* A rendering bug was affecting the Vice President’s visibility, making
him virtually invisible to the rest of the server. This has been
  addressed.

Cabinet

* There was a bug in the last release that prevented the Cabinet from
disagreeing with the President, which was the cause of a number of
serious balance issues. This bug has been addressed, and we will
  continue to monitor the situation.

Judiciary

* Many concerns have been raised regarding balance issues in the
  Supreme Court.
This system is maintained on a different patch schedule, and will
  require longer to address.
* A large number of NPCs in the Judiciary were incorrectly flagged
"ideological." We are trying to identify these cases and rectify
  this situation.

Homeland Security

* Homeland Security Advisory System: We have identified a bug in
this system that prevents the threat level from dropping below
Elevated (Yellow). The code for Guarded (Blue) and Low (Green)
has been commented out. We are testing the fix and hope to have
it in by the next patch.
* Torture: This debuff is being removed after a record number of
  complaints.
* Item: Large Bottle of Water is incorrectly generating threat
with TSA Agents when held in inventory. We are looking into the
  issue.
* Asking questions about Homeland Security was incorrectly
  triggering the Chain-Jingoism debuff.

Economy

* Serious on-going issues with server economy are still being
addressed. We expect further roll-backs, and appreciate your
help identifying and fixing bugs. We can’t make these fixes
  without your help.

PVP

* Reputation with various factions are being rebalanced. The
gradated reputation scale was erroneously being overwritten
by the binary For Us/ Against Us flag.

Quests

* The” Desert Storm” quest chain was displaying an erroneous
"Mission Accomplished" message near the beginning of the chain.
* The quest chain that begins with “There’s no cake like
Yellow Cake” and terminates with “W-M-Denied” has been
identified as uncompletable, and has been removed.

Reagents

* Many recipes that currently call for Crude Oil can now be
made with Wind, Solar, Geothermal and Ethanol reagents.
We hope to roll out even more sweeping changes in the next
  patch.

Events

* The “Axis of Evil” event is drawing to a close. Look forward
to the “Rebuilding Bridges” event starting in January.

Requested Fudge Recipe

Posted by: kyriemist on: January 18, 2009

Here is the recipe for the fudge. It’s very simple and makes up easily in no time.

3c. Chocolate chips (I usually do half dark and half milk)
1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk
dash salt
1.5 tsp vanilla

In heavy sauce pan, on low heat, melt chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk and salt. Remove from heat;stir in vanilla. Spread evenly into waxed paper lined baking dish. Chill 2 hours or until firm. Turn fudge onto cutting board, peel off paper and cut into squares. Store leftovers in fridge.

Enjoy!

Catching up

Posted by: kyriemist on: January 6, 2009

So things have been pretty busy over the last few weeks.  We went to Craig’s parents for Christmas and the kids had a ton of fun being spoiled by their family. They made quiet a haul. I made some homemade fudge that was amazing if I do say so myself.  I forgot to take any pictures though so I have none for the blog on Christmas. I managed to finish a cloche and a matching scarf before we left.

mealex

Alex jumped in and demanded to take picture with me and not being one to squelch his modeling career I let him model the hat for me as well and got some really cute pictures. Unfortunately Craig is unable to master focusing and some of the photos were fuzzyish, but hey that is not something we kick you out of the family for so I am posting them anyway.

We came back and spent New Year’s Eve at Erica’s party. Where we had a blast hanging out and enjoying friends. I finsihed my sweater which I had started at Christmas and was happy with how pretty it turned out. It has become my favorite sweater!

mecraig2

Oh yeah this was the scarf I finished…

noroscarf

Today I got my knitpicks magazine in the mail and after I finished thumbing through it I handed it off to Kayden to look at.  He had fun looking through it asking questions and then he got to the needles section and with that gleaming of fanastism in his eyes he turned to me and said…”I can order needles from this magazine?!” I said yes and Craig went to hide his credit cards.

Snow Day!

Posted by: kyriemist on: December 18, 2008

Yeah right…the only reason there is still snow in my yard is because the wall is blocking the sun.  Admittedly last night it looked like this…

p1030414

My poor poor roses.  Kayden had a blast playing outside but Alex was to sick to go out.  So here are some shots of Kayden.

p1030416

p1030422He even made a snow man, this was taken right before it toppled to the ground.

Last night Kayden decided he wanted to make a new project so I taught him how to read a pattern. Which he picked up very very quickly. And even finished his project in about 5 hours. He did an amazing job on it too.

p1030430

Alex spent most of his day yesterday finishing up his Nevada project that was supposed to be due today…had a fake snow day not been called. He did a really good job on  it.

p1030431

Then he decided to take try out sock modeling for me, which was kind of funny because they are Kiyana’s pink socks so I figured he wouldn’t want a whole picture taken just his feet. But he said no take a whole picture!

p10304241

Then he insisted on posing his feet in different ways so you could see the true wonderfulness of the socks…

p1030425

p1030426

Craig has been a very busy bee and has finsihed…mostly my lovely Yarn Armorie! We still have to stain a few drawers but check it out!!

mirrordoor

I now get to clear out the area I want it to go on and start organizing my yarn!!!! I can’t wait. Probably after the doctors visit for my eye today.

This made me laugh so I had to share it with you all.

WHY GOD MADE MOMS

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She’s the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.
How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.
What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.
Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We’re related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people’s mom like me.
What kind of a little girl was your mom?
1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.
What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?
Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that mom didn’t have her thinking cap on.
Who’s the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn’t want to be boss, but she has to because dad’s such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.
What’s the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power ’cause that’s who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.
What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don’t do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.
What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she’s already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I’d diet, maybe blue.
If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I’d get rid of that.
2. I’d make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Teacher Conference Day

Posted by: kyriemist on: December 17, 2008

Yes it was once again that dreaded day for children when their teachers rat them out on all their bad behaviour.

Alex

Last years conference for Alex were mostly just frustrating because the teacher seemed…less then able to deal with the challenge that can be Alex.  Perhaps I have high standards.

This year though Alex’s teacher is fun but strict. Which I think is a great combonation.  Currently though Alex is having rushing issues, because he wants to read his books. His teacher graded his last Math test in front of us and he would have gotten a hundred…except he didn’t answer one question at all and the other he didn’t read fully. So he missed two questions he shouldn’t have missed as he knew the answers on both of them.

His teacher says his grades do not reflect his knowledge and that having to grade him lower was really hard for him because he knew Alex was capapble of the work if he would slow down and not rush.

He also said that Alex has a big problem with his temper and causing scenes in class. That if there is trouble going on the common demonator is Alex is in the middle of it.  He said Alex seems to have a sense of entitlement and an inability to accept any responiblity for his actions. Gee I wonder where he got that from. *Insert theme music for the Wicked Witch of the West here*

His teacher is very concerned about this because he feels that if Alex does not learn how to solicalize with the other children properly then he will have a very big problem by the time middle school comes around.

When he asked Alex why he was withdrawing from trying to be friends with the other kids Alex said that he didn’t like being hurt one bit.  To which the teacher promptly decided to have the school counselor come and talk with Alex about that issue more during school.

His teacher also said that Alex was a very smart kid, he just was not performing to his potential and he thought part of that was out of boredom. He said Alex’s reading levels were putstanding and showed the reality of his potential that was lacking in some of the other areas. He also asked if he could test Alex for the Gate program…which is a program for Gifted Children. If he tests in then he would get to go do some more challenging creative work, in which his teacher thinks he would excell at.

Over all Alex is doing well, a bit immuature in his socialization skills, and needs to work on his temper.

Which makes me wonder about how much of Kiyana’s behavior was a reflection of some of Alex’s behavior at Thanksgiving. She told me on various occasions that Alex was throwing temper tantrums, but since I haven’t ever seen him do it and they were always out away from adults when she talked about it I thought she was exagerating.  Now I’ll be watching for it.

Kayden

Kayden’s teacher had a glowing report for him, she said he comes to school excited to learn and that he gets along very well with all the other children.  She said he is doing very well in his studies but that his reading was just at level. She said she was concerned about this because if he slips a little there is no room for error.

She suggested a website called ticket to read, which gives them a club house that they can decorate by reading and passing tests on what they have read. Correct answers earn them tickets to buy things like pets, balls, rc cars and various other things to decorate thier club house as well as getting ribbons and trophys for the reading. The program even records them reading and if they read so many words a minute then they get tickets for reading out loud at level as well.

She also said that sometimes Kayden will raise his hand to answer a question and then pause for a long time before speaking. She said it’s not a stutter, she not really sure what it is but she was wondering if we had noticed it as well. I haven’t noticed it, but as she said it could be something he does at school out of nervousness or it could be something we are just used to him doing and so don’t notice anymore. So I’ll be watching for that as well.

On other notes…my Yarn Armoire is coming along nicely. Last night Craig finished the new drawer and added some stability braceing.new-drawer

This morning he went and bought some clamps to help him with the front door and it’s in the process of glueing itself back together.

frontdoorglueing

And here is a picture with all the drawers in…though not all stained the same color yet you will see. But we are working on that.

alldrawers

Anyway it’s been an interesting and productive morning and now I need to go finish that second sock for Kiyana. Here is a picure of the first one, I know you are all dying to see it. ;)

Christmas Came Early!!

Posted by: kyriemist on: December 16, 2008

So today was a great day I finished up some Christmas presents…some of which there will be a preview of here. This year I made the boys Murloc’s for Christmas. They are little frogmen for the game World of Warcraft.  I think they turned out really really cute.

boys2

I can’t wait for the boys to open them on Christmas, very exciting!

Then I finished some other projects that won’t be putting up here.  I had to go out and get a few supplies and on the way home Craig and I happened to see a antique armoire sitting on the side of the road. Craig drove right past it…but I saw…. A Yarn Armoire!!!! *insert glowing light and angelic singing here*

I have a thing for antique furniture even though I don’t technically own any.  After a discussion, I decided that I would let my Best Friend have back her great great great great grandmothers steamer trunk…even though I had kept it safe for the last ten years. Personally I think after 2 years that is technically abandonment and it qualifies it as mine.  I LOVE that trunk, it makes me happy every time I squeeze a bit more yarn into it. Though admittedly I have out grown the trunk and my stash is to big for it.

I decided that my friendship was more important then the trunk when she got that really sad sound in her voice and said I could keep it if I really felt that way. I do…but I understand why she loves it too so she can have it…plus I made her come and get it so I get to hang out with her!

Anyway I saw the Yarn Armoire and made Craig turn around so I could look at it more closely to see if maybe it should come home with us. When I looked more closely I saw….skeltelon keyholes!!!!!!That may fit my keys!!!!!

3keys

drawerscloseup

It has locking drawers! I have wanted one of these since I can remember. When my friend told me she would be coming in March to pick up her truck, I began dreaming of the perfect Yarn Armoire.

Anyway I tried my keys…and alas they did not fit. However this one is the closest…it just need to be the same shape but smaller.

keycloseup

So here is my pretty Yarn Armoire which needs a little bit of TLC…but I can’t wait to fix it up. Okay technically Craig is the one doing the wood work needed…but look I am taking pictures and very very excited and supportive that should count!

craigworking

Look look it even has one of those shifty metal clothing hangers!

topbeginning2

And a mirror that comes out from the top and does mirror things!

topmirror

Plus it has a very heavy antique mirror for the open armoire part.

doormirror

beginning1

I am soo excited I told Craig if he fixed it up for me, I would consider it the perfect Christmas present ever!  How could it get any better, a pretty antique I have been dreaming of forever, a place to store my yarn and my baby making it all pretty for me!

So it’s been an interesting week.

Posted by: kyriemist on: December 12, 2008

On Tuesday I woke up with a sliced cornea, of which I have no idea how I got it. I went to bed fine and woke up in the most agonizing pain I have ever been in. Craig drove me to the doctor who promptly tried to pretend he was not freaked out about how badly I had injured my eye with no idea how. He tried be appear calm and than gave me four prescriptions. Luckily for me after going to see the doc every morning this week I have been told it has healed well enough that I can come back for my next check up on Thursday. My vision is almost back to where it was before I mysteriously manged to hurt myself.

Which is good because today Alex decided to trash talk about how he was quiet certain he could beat me at Scene it. So I promptly beat his pants off, it was great. The Lost Boys are getting very excited about Christmas and going up to visit their grandparents. Not sure how long we will be up there as I haven’t really taken the time to find out but I’m sure it will be fun. Anyway that’s the update for now.
