Kyrie’s Rants & InSaNiTiEs

Archive for July 2008

It’s been awhile since I’ve had the chance to sit down and write.  I’ve been staying pretty busy. Knitting wise I have finished my first pair to toe socks. They are hand dyed by me, and I think they turned out pretty great.

I also finished this really cute baby sweater, I can’t remember if I posted this already but here it is. I really really love it.  It turned out so cute.

I liked the yarn so much and I had enough left over that I made two baby hats as well. One is for my friend Katie who is moving to New York at the end of this month.

I know the hat is a bit big for the doll. But it’s meant to actually fit a human baby.  I just didn’t have one for modeling my knitting.

I’ve also been working on the Icarus Shawl, which I started last night and have made pretty good progress on it so far.

Lets see on the family front my sister has a new job, and will be starting at the end of the month. A whole 1.50 raise will come with that which will be a very good thing.  Kiyana and Mom went camping last week and Kiyana caught her first fish.  Mom said the guy that taught her to fish also made her bash it’s head in and then watch him clean it. From what I understand she wasn’t all that happy with the thought of eating the fish after all that head bashing but tried it anyway.

The Lost Boys came home with their hair butchered again.  You’d think the Wicked Witch could at least cut their hair straight. Such is not the case however. It’s rather pathetic really.

Craig and I have decided to start taking some yoga classes, so we’ll see how that goes. We watched Stargate Continuum last night…sigh. It was okay. Nothing special. We have been watching this show called Eureka lately which I really like. It’s probably the best sci-fi show out there right now.   So not much is up.

My aunt sent this to me and it made me laugh so I had to share it with everyone.

9 Words Women Use
1.) Fine : This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

2.)     Five Minutes : If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3.)     Nothing : This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

4.) Go Ahead : This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

5.) Loud Sigh : This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means  she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing.  (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)

6.) That’s Okay : This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7.) Thanks : A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you’re welcome.

8.)     Whatever : Is a women’s way of saying expletive !

9.) Don’t worry about it, I got it : Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking “What’s wrong?” For the woman’s response refer to #3.

And I happened to stumble across a Kindle while I was looking at books on Amazon. I want! I want! So I’ll be saving because this means I no longer have to limit my library to what I want to box up and move! This is so exciting. Has anyone got one? If so how do you like it. I’m going to go sit in a corner now and plot ways I can save money so I can have my Precious…soon!

So we had a very good afternoon, we made banana bread which turned out very well.

Kayden has taken to fake smiling so much that as you can see from his corded neck muscles he’s trying very hard to not for anyone to notice its force.

We sat down to do the puzzle I had bought Alex for his birthday and while we did that we listened to a program by This American Life. Which is a program that picks a topic every week and then does a story on it.  I used to listen to it every Friday when I worked Data Entry.  But since I don’t do that job any more I listen on my computer when I have a chance.

Anyway, a few weeks ago Alex made a very…racist comment that we discussed with him, but I could tell he wasn’t understanding why it was wrong and it felt like it wasn’t finished but I wasn’t sure how to finish the conversation. The most upsetting part was that he made it about his own heritage without even realizing that he’s Spanish.  So when I ran across the program called Shouting Across the Divide which was aired on 1-6-08 (if anyone is interested in listening), I knew that it would clearly show what the consequences were for those kind of comments and how they could damage people.

So while we put together the puzzle we sat down and listened to the program, and I told them I expected them to listen and after it was over we’d talk about it. It’s the story of a 4th grade girl and how she went from being a popular normal student to a terrorized young girl all because of some prejudices and racism. The kids listened to the program (we only listened to the first part about the girl) asked questions and at the end I could see that Alex and Kayden both understood the damage it could cause and why it wasn’t acceptable.  I could also see that they didn’t want to ever have anyone feel about something they couldn’t change. They had really good questions and really good answers when we asked the questions and I have to say I’m very very pleased with how it all turned out.

I also finished my new knitting bag today, I’m really pleased with how that turned out as well. Demetri insisted that he had to have his picture taken in the new bag and so we took a few shots, and I must say that he’s quiet the little drama ram, I’ve pared down the photos to three. Which he insisted HAD to be on the blog.

I love the fact that my sock needles fit nicely into the pockets which I modified, thinking the whole time of my friend Susan.  Who can’t help but modify everything she touches.

Did I mention that I burned myself last week?  This is about 5 days after I initially burned it. It’s slowly healing but as it was a 2nd degree burn not as fast as I would like. Today it started itching horribly which I know means it’s healing but I’m not looking forward to the scar. *sigh*

Today while Craig took his daily nap with Demetri the boys and I made some banana bread. We’ll see how it turns out when its done baking. Right now it’s smelling very very yummy and I’m pretty excited about it coming out of the oven.

Kayden has been a bit clingy so I figured it was time to do some baking. Usually Alex doesn’t care to help bake but today he decided he wanted to as well. While we were mixing up all the ingredients and it was Alex’s turn to crack an egg he ever so gently tapped the egg on the counter and made a barely visible hairline fracture. He looked up at me with big dark eyes and said is that good?

I gave him the “boy have you gone crazy” look and envisioning egg shells in my egg bowl (I know better then to let them crack eggs over the batter) said, “No crack it like you mean it.” I guess this was the most funny thing the Lost Boys had heard in ages because they spent the next 20 minutes while we finished mixing up the batter “doing things like they meant it.”

Kayden was very excited about the beaters and happily took his. When I asked Alex if he wanted one he said, “No thank you,'” and then a second later, “Well maybe just a lick to see if it’s good.” So I offered him the beater and he hesitantly to the smallest of licks and then sat there trying to decide if he liked banana bread batter. He very hesitantly took the beater, and I said,”You don’t have to have it, if you don’t want it,” The expression on his face was priceless as he considered whether or not he wanted it and then when I said, “I’ll eat it if you don’t want it he quickly decided he’d take it after all. Though he did offer me a lick, sweet boy that he is.

Oh yeah I almost forgot my birthday is next week, I can’t believe it’s already this close, this month has just flew by.  I think we’re having a bbq, but I’m not sure Craig is in charge of planning it.

So I spent yesterday dyeing a whole bunch of yarn for some orders that I needed to send out. They turned out pretty good I think. I will be getting it boxed up and sent out later today. But before that here is a pretty picture of all that dyeing.

They are only getting 15 of those skeins and I’m not sure right now which ones will be going and which will be staying. I also did some dyeing for Hannah’s next project, I can’t remember what she said she was going to make, I think mittens, or something of that nature.

I have also been working on a new knitting bag, which is going slowly. I still have to finish the lining, but I’ve been stalled on the project for the last few days. I need a sewing room so I won’t feel so bad about being stalled in the middle of a project. It’s looking like this so far.

That’s what I’ve been up to and yet still I feel like I haven’t gotten anything accomplished. Sigh.

I just wanted to share with everyone that I updated my shop with new yarn, some Fingering and lace weight yarn. As well I thought I’d share some pictures of the beautiful FO that Hannah made with my hand dyed yarn. I am so proud of her she did such a great job, and she designed her shrug herself.

As well she made a very beautiful scarf.

So come check out my new updates. Oh yeah I almost forgot that I finished the baby hoodie I was working on and it turned out so awesome! I just love it.
